Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
And also with you.
We have come together as the family of God in the name of Christ;
to offer our praise and thanksgiving
to receive God’s holy word,
to pray for the needs of the world,
and to seek forgiveness of our sins,
that by the power of the Holy Spirit
we may give ourselves to the service of God.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life.
Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all.
Most merciful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we confess that we have sinned
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
In your mercy
forgive what we have been,
help us to amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be;
that we may do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.
To all and each where regret is real, God pronounces pardon and grants us the right to begin again,
Thanks be to God. Amen
O LORD, we beseech thee mercifully to hear us; and grant that we, to whom thou hast given an hearty desire to pray, may by thy mighty aid be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
40 “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; 42 and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.
Spend a moment thinking about acts of kindness, being welcoming, allowing yourself to be welcomed. We often talk about being welcoming in our churches but now our churches have been closed. So how have we been kind, welcoming, Christian, in our communities. Our churches are gradually reopening for Private Prayer…but with risk assessments, antibacterial gel, cordoned off areas,… I would not describe them as welcoming places… So we need to continue with our responsibilities as Christian beings out in our community. Those of you who found last week’s sermon will remember my final words on the video (or on your hand delivered copy) to follow the advice of the prophet Micah “to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our Godâ€â€¦
How do you respond?
Let us pray. We bring to God our concerns for today……………. You may wish to use the prayer suggestions on the bulletin sheet or your own
we pray for the world,
the church,
and the needs of our own community and individuals we know.
Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Almighty God we thank you for the gift of your holy word,
may it be a lantern to our feet
and a light to our paths.
Take us and use us
to love and serve all creation
in the power of the Holy Spirit
and in the name of your Son
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord bless us,
and preserve us from all evil,
and keep us in eternal life. Amen
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
