Let us pray

Lord and loving Heavenly Father we give you thanks that you are willing to accept us into your presence today not because we deserve to enjoy time with the One True Living God but simply because of your mercy;

not because we have any merits of our own but purely on the basis of the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf.

Enable us, we pray, to find fresh repentance and renewed faith so that we may benefit from our meeting with you in this virtual service today, and inspire, instruct and lead us in our thinking so that we are helped to grow in faith and in closeness to you.

We ask for Jesus sake.

Amen.

Prayer prompts

Today we focus in our prayers on the preparation for outreach in the coming Christmas season, but first ...

Let's give THANKS to God that our permission to use Llandovery Livestock Market for our outreach Drive-In Service has been renewed!

Drive In

Let's pray for our first 'Advent' Drive-In service next Sunday (December 6th.) at 3 p.m.that:

  • The people the Lord wants there will come
  • That we will be able to invite people to come along
  • That a short, simple, clear sermon on John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus entitled 'Getting READY for Christmas' will be prepared, prayed over and powerfully used to point people to the Lord Jesus
  • That others will participate helpfully with readings and prayers that go home to the heart
  • That the COVID protocols, the meeting place and the technology will run smoothly and be protected from the pestilence, disruption by noise or by disruptive people and that the Word of God and the sense of His presence will bring people to true saving faith in Christ
  • That people will come along who will then want to bring others to the Drive-In Carols on December 20th.

The Christmas Book Club

  • Please pray for the distribution, the reading and the subsequent interaction on this year's Christmas book: 'Who Stole Christmas' by Paul Heaps.
  • Please pray for the villages where this book will be given
  • Please pray that we will be able to give copies of this book freely to our friends
  • Please pray that in spite of the restrictions that are on us we will be able to post, give, send the file of the book electronically and be creative in getting this useful little book into hands where it will be profitably read in the course of this month
  • We have a .pdf file available for downloading onto smart phones for people who aren't big readers so this can be read aloud by the @Voice app ... please pray this will be used to bring people to Christ at Christmas

Drive-In Carols

  • It remains to be seen what fresh COVID regulations will be published on Monday.
Please PRAY we will be able to continue to do  'Drive-In' this Christmas season
  • Please pray that we will see people brought to our Drive-In Christmas Carol Service on December 20th and that both we and this event will be protected and visited by the Spirit of God so that many will hear from Him for the first time.

Lord help us to walk close to  you in the coming Christmas season and bless us with usefulness in the service of your Kingdom.

We ask for souls, for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

1 Thessalonians 1 (Listen)

Greeting

1:1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace to you and peace.

The Thessalonians’ Faith and Example

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Let's sing ...

Let's conclude our worship today in prayer for one another

1 Chronicles 16:8 says ...

"Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done."

Help us all this week, our Lord we pray, to praise you, to proclaim your name and to make known to all the nations of the earth what you have done as you have returned our hearts and lives to you.

To you be all honour praise and Glory, throughout all ages, and for ever more.

Amen.
