As we turn off the distractions of the environment around us, settle down and concentrate on the Lord and seek His presence, let's commit our time to the Lord in prayer.

Lord and loving heavenly Father we come to seek your presence again today, to shed the burdens of our sin and guilt at the foot of your Cross, and to bask in renewed fellowship with the One Who loves us in spite of all we are or have been.

We thank you for your mercy and the love that persists in taking us back, accepting us again by the shed blood of the Cross, leading us to progress further in our knowledge of you and in our walk in the ways of our God.

Cleanse us again we pray today, draw us once more close to your heart, renew our strength and hope and lead us in your everlasting way to life.

We ask it all for Jesus' sake.

AMEN.

Our worship today is led by City Alight.

Here's the brief prayer news video with the updates for y GRWP this week

Pray for the World

A year ago we were reeling under the first wave of COVID-19 and learning many new things as a result.

Today our case rate  in this part of Wales is really very small.

  • Let's give thanks to God that for the time being we can (carefully) relax our precautions against this virus, even though it hasn't gone away, and can enjoy some of the fruits of the relative security that our lockdowns and vaccination programmes have allowed.
  • While we are grateful for God's goodness to us, we pray for countries in other parts of the world that are currently suffering greatly with this dreadful disease.
    • We pray for the situation in India which appears to have relaxed too soon and where the suffering is currently very intense
    • We pray for the situation in Brazil that the Gvernment's previous stance will be revised to encourage social distancing, the washing of hands, the wearing of masks and all other sensible personal precautions and that the pandemic which has brought so much suffering and death to the over-crowded favelas where poor people live will be turned back
    • And we pray for the former communist states of Europe where there is no current prospect of obtaining a vaccine and death rates remain persistently high, particularly for Hungary, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina

Lord, in your mercy, please accept our thanks and hear our prayers.

In Jesus' Name.

AMEN.

The Thought for the Day which goes out every week day is reaching 20-25 people most days.

Please pray for this to be effective in helping our people and other people to walk more closely with God.

Obadiah (Listen)

1:1 The vision of Obadiah.

Edom Will Be Humbled

  Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom:
  We have heard a report from the LORD,
    and a messenger has been sent among the nations:
  “Rise up! Let us rise against her for battle!”
  Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
    you shall be utterly despised.
  The pride of your heart has deceived you,
    you who live in the clefts of the rock,
    in your lofty dwelling,
  who say in your heart,
    “Who will bring me down to the ground?”
  Though you soar aloft like the eagle,
    though your nest is set among the stars,
    from there I will bring you down,
      declares the LORD.
  If thieves came to you,
    if plunderers came by night—
    how you have been destroyed!—
    would they not steal only enough for themselves?
  If grape gatherers came to you,
    would they not leave gleanings?
  How Esau has been pillaged,
    his treasures sought out!
  All your allies have driven you to your border;
    those at peace with you have deceived you;
  they have prevailed against you;
    those who eat your bread have set a trap beneath you—
    you have no understanding.
  Will I not on that day, declares the LORD,
    destroy the wise men out of Edom,
    and understanding out of Mount Esau?
  And your mighty men shall be dismayed, O Teman,
    so that every man from Mount Esau will be cut off by slaughter.

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10   Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
    shame shall cover you,
    and you shall be cut off forever.
11   On the day that you stood aloof,
    on the day that strangers carried off his wealth
  and foreigners entered his gates
    and cast lots for Jerusalem,
    you were like one of them.
12   But do not gloat over the day of your brother
    in the day of his misfortune;
  do not rejoice over the people of Judah
    in the day of their ruin;
  do not boast
    in the day of distress.
13   Do not enter the gate of my people
    in the day of their calamity;
  do not gloat over his disaster
    in the day of his calamity;
  do not loot his wealth
    in the day of his calamity.
14   Do not stand at the crossroads
    to cut off his fugitives;
  do not hand over his survivors
    in the day of distress.

The Day of the Lord Is Near

15   For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations.
  As you have done, it shall be done to you;
    your deeds shall return on your own head.
16   For as you have drunk on my holy mountain,
    so all the nations shall drink continually;
  they shall drink and swallow,
    and shall be as though they had never been.
17   But in Mount Zion there shall be those who escape,
    and it shall be holy,
  and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions.
18   The house of Jacob shall be a fire,
    and the house of Joseph a flame,
    and the house of Esau stubble;
  they shall burn them and consume them,
    and there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau,
      for the LORD has spoken.

The Kingdom of the Lord

19   Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau,
    and those of the Shephelah shall possess the land of the Philistines;
  they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the land of Samaria,
    and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20   The exiles of this host of the people of Israel
    shall possess the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath,
  and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
    shall possess the cities of the Negeb.
21   Saviors shall go up to Mount Zion
    to rule Mount Esau,
    and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.

(But we think it's more fun to listen!)

As we conclude, let's consider Jude's exhortation and pray for one another accordingly, that we will walk closely with our resurrecting and restoring God.

"dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

Be merciful to those who doubt;

save others by snatching them from the fire;

to others show mercy, mixed with fear – hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling

and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy –

to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority,

through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages,

now and for evermore!

AMEN.
